How to Prepare for the National Standard Residential Building Contractor C (ICC F13) Exam

The National Standard Residential Building Contractor C (ICC F13) Exam is a four-hour, 80-question, open book test of your knowledge of residential building practices and procedures, including:  

  • Permits and General Regulations 
  • Building Planning and Life Safety 
  • Structural Systems 
  • Building Envelope 

A passing score is 70% or higher. Effective preparation involves review of the study materials provided, as well as relevant national building codes and standards. Exam prep courses available through Contractor Training Center explain exactly what you need to know to pass your exam the first time.

How to Get Your National Standard Residential Building Contractor C (ICC F13) Certification

To schedule your National Standard Residential Building Contractor C (ICC F13) Certification exam: 

  • Register with ICC by visiting my.iccsafe.org/register 
  • Submit your application and the $115.00 registration fee. 
  • Register with Pearson Vue and schedule your exam
  • Pass the four-hour, open-book test consisting of 80 questions. A 70% score is required to pass.
