Is the Virginia RBC exam open book?

Yes. The Virginia Residential Building Contractor exam is an open-book test, meaning you may bring approved reference materials into the testing center. What score do I need to pass the Virginia RBC exam?

You need a score of 70% or higher to pass the Virginia RBC exam, which means answering at least 56 out of 80 questions correctly. The exam is administered on computer at a PSI testing center. You have 160 minutes to complete it.

How do I register for the Virginia RBC exam?

To register, you must first be pre-approved by DPOR (Virginia Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation). Submit your license application and experience verification forms at www.dpor.virginia.gov. Once pre-approved, register for the exam with PSI Exams at www.psiexams.com. The PSI exam fee is $85. Experience requirements vary by license class: 2 years for Class C, 3 years for Class B, and 5 years for Class A.
