A B-1 General Commercial Contractor is licensed to construct, alter, and repair in connection with any structure built, being built, or to be built for the support, shelter, and enclosure of persons, animals, or movable property of any kind.

A B-2 General Small Commercial Contractor is licensed to perform commercial construction in connection with any new structure or addition built, being built, or to be built for the support, shelter and enclosure of persons, animals, or movable property of any kind on projects amounting to less than $2,000,000 in labor and materials costs.

A B-1 Dual Building Contractor license allows the scope of work permitted by the B-1 General Commercial Contractor and the B- General Residential Contractor licenses.

A KB-2 Dual Residential and Small Commercial license classification allows the scope of work permitted by the B-2 General Small Commercial and the B- General Residential Contractor licenses.

While Arizona B-1, B-2, KB-1, and KB-2 contractor license applicants are required to pass the same trade exam, the classification a candidate can qualify for will depend on meeting experience requirements specific to the scope of work of the license type being applied for.

To qualify for a license, an individual or business (Partnership, LLC, or Corporation) must be registered and in good standing with the Arizona Corporation Commission. An individual from the entity must possess at least 4 years of working experience in Building Construction and pass both the Arizona SRE (Statutes and Rules Examination) online from the Arizona ROC and pass a licensing exam (Arizona ROC B-1/B-2/KB-2/KB-2 Combined Exam or NASCLA Commercial Builder Exam).
