The right resources and exam prep services

Most states require contractor applicants to take and pass a Business and Law exam. The exam will cover basic business management skills necessary to run a construction business. The exam also ensures that contractor applicants are familiar with the legal requirements of establishing a business, including taxes, laws, and regulations governing construction.

We currently offer exam prep courses for 16 states including Alabama (General Contractor),  Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Mississippi, Nevada, New Jersey, New Mexico, North Carolina, Ohio, South Carolina (Commercial and Residential boards), Tennessee, Utah, Virginia, and West Virginia.

Each state's Business and Law Exam is going to differ slightly, but most follow a similar content outline. Business and Law exams cover topics that are important for a contractor to understand before opening a contracting business. These topics include state licensing requirements, estimating and bidding, tax laws, and contract law.

Exam Prep Course

We offer exam prep courses in three options: in-person, live webinars, and online pre-recorded. The course delivery will vary based on which state you are looking for exam prep in. All our courses are available as online pre-recorded courses that you can complete at any time!

Our in-person courses are held in our classroom in Richmond, Virginia. They are a one-day, intensive prep course. The online pre-recorded content is also included with the purchase of any live course to serve as a follow-up for study material. 

You can join our live courses from anywhere via a live interactive webinar. 

Our pre-recorded courses are delivered digitally and you will have access immediately upon purchase. You can complete the course at your own time and pace. Pre-Recorded content includes highlighting instructions and practice exam questions for each book.

You may bring the approved references for your state's examinto the exam with you. We offer pre-tabbed and highlighted books as well to save you the time of tabbing and highlighting the books yourself. Steps to obtaining your license

Most license specialties are required to meet other state licensing regulations to obtain licensure. Often these requirements include the need to take an additional technical exam, submit a license application for approval, and meet other licensing requirements. Some states also require pre-license education courses.

If I pass one state's Business Law exam, can I get out of testing in other states?

Most states require contractor applicants to take and pass a business law exam before obtaining a license. While many states offer license reciprocity with other state licensing boards, it still may be necessary to take and pass the state's business and law exam, even if you are approved opt-out of the technical exam requirement.
