In Tennessee, Residential contractors licensed after January 1, 2009 with a residential license classification of BC-A, BC-A/r, or BC-A,b (sm) are required to obtain eight (8) hours of Board-approved Residential Continuing Education (RCE) as a prerequisite to renew their license.

Contractor Training Center is an approved Tennessee RCE provider by the Tennessee Board for Licensing Contractors.

License Requirements

How to Renew Your Contractor's License in Tennessee

In Tennessee, licensed contractors are required to renew their licenses biannually every two (2) years.

To renew a Residential contractor's license in Tennessee (any license type with specification "A"), licensees will need to supply proof of RCE credits along with other required supporting documents noted in the renewal application. Additionally, renewal fees are due to the Board at time of submission.

RCE credits may be submitted online with the online renewal form as a “Other-Disclosures and Additional Info” file attachment. Be sure to submit RCE documentation with your renewal submission, not separately, to ensure your license is renewed on time.

Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to complete RCE in Tennessee?

Tennessee Contractor RCE is required for licenses issued after January 1, 2009 with a Residential building classification as follows: BC-A; BC-A/r; and those with a combination BC-A,b (sm) license classification.

Note: If a new QA was designated after January 1, 2009, but the original date of the license was prior to that date, RCE would not be required since the requirement is determined by the original license issue date.
